Fluorescent substrate for use in detection of intracellular and in vitro lipase activity.

4-Trifluoromethylumbelliferyl oleate is a lipase substrate that releases the highly fluorescent 4-trifluoromethylumbelliferone (4-TFMU, blue fluorescent) dye upon enzyme action. This analog has found extensive use in food analysis studies due to the pH insensitivity of the 4-TFMU dye produced in such assays.
