Description

Blue fluorophore standard used for labeling and in enzyme assay systems.

7-Hydroxycoumarin, also known as umbelliferone, hydrangine, skimmetine, and beta-umbelliferone, is a widespread natural product of the coumarin family. It absorbs ultraviolet light strongly at several wavelengths and emits a bright blue fluorescence. It is used in sunscreens and has been reported to have antioxidant properties. Derivatives on the 7-hydroxy group are widely used in enzyme assay systems. It therefore represents a standard dye for these assay systems.
