Description: Popular, ultrasensitive, fluorescent substrate for measuring esterase activity in live cells. It is often used in cell viability assays and "Live-Dead" assay systems
Application: Especially useful for automated cell viability assays because the cleavage product produced upon enzymatic or chemical hydrolysis of the acetate group(s) is carboxyfluorescein Product M0122. This fluorophore is well-retained inside live cells, while the substrate CFDA is membrane permeant. See the references for additional information about CFDA use in bacterial, plant, yeast and mammalian cell culture. Green emission spectral properties (Abs 488 nm / EM 517 nm) after removal of acetate esters, intracellularly.
