High Copy Number Expression Vectors for Chloramphenicol Acetyltransferase (CAT).

Chloramphenicol Acetyltransferase (CAT) catalyzes the transfer of an acetyl group from acetyl CoA to chloramphenicol. Being a bacterial gene, CAT can be expressed in mammalian cells and assayed for with no background activity. CAT is traditionally assayed for using thin layer chromatography, though fluorescent substrates are also commercially available. Marker Gene provides a variety of high copy number expression vectors and is constantly developing new vectors and systems. Feel free to call our technical assistance staff for more information about these or other molecular biology products for your research.

Product ID Product Name Description
M1327 pCdgCAT Mammalian CAT Expression Vector  This high copy number eukaryotic vector, pCdgCAT expresses the E. coli Chloramphenicol Acetyltransferase (CAT) gene under the control of the cytomegalovirus immediate early gene (CMV IE) promoter. This vector is very useful for transfection of mammalian cells in culture and for use in other species. The Chloramphenicol Acetyltransferase enzyme expression is enhanced by the featured Kozak's sequence and SV40 late polyadenylylation signal. pCdgCAT expression vector also contains also contains the β-lactamase gene, which acts as a selection marker (100ug/mL ampicillin resistance) in E. coli host. In addition, the CAT gene can be excised using the XhoI/NotI sites to allow the insertion of other genes to be expressed under the same regulatory elements in mammalian cells.
