D-Gluconic acid methyl ester (methyl gluconate) is a membrane permeant analog of D-gluconic acid useful as a component of cell culture media as well as for use as an intermediate in carbohydrate based synthetic preparations of sugar derivatives, as a component of the enzymatic degradation of xylan and glucomannan and as a component of various pharmaceutical preparations.
