Description

Highly fluorescent membrane probe for labeling live and fixed cells in culture. DiO has been used in long-term neuronal tracing studies.

Long-chain dialkylcarbocyanines are widely used as anterograde and retrograde neuronal tracers in living and fixed tissues and cells. They have been known to stain cells for many cell divisions. They have found use in detection of cell-cell fusion and adhesion, tracing cell migration during development and after transplantation, monitoring lipid diffusion in membranes by FRAP (Fluorescence Recovery After Photobleaching), in cytotoxicity assays and for labeling of lipoproteins.
