Description

Ultrasensitive substrate for chemiluminescent measurement of β-galactosidase activity in homogeneous assays, or in cell lysate samples when the enzyme luciferase is added.

This analog of D-Luciferin contains a β-galactoside attached at the 6-O-position, and thus is not a substrate for the firefly luciferase enzyme until the galactose is removed e.g., by β-galactosidase activity. When combined with firefly luciferase in coupled assays, the combined double substrate (Luc-Gal) has proven to have detection limits for β-galactosidase activity as low as 3 x 10(-19) mol of enzyme per assay. It has also found utility in detection of engineered bacteria in vivo.
