Tetraphenylporphyrin, abbreviated TPP or H2TPP, is a synthetic heterocyclic compound that resembles naturally occurring porphyrins, cofactors found in hemoglobin and cytochromes that are related to chlorophyll and vitamin B12. This highly purified form has found application as a sensitizer for generation of singlet oxygen in cell and tissues as well as in combination with a variety of metal complexes.
